Buzz Lightyear: a short film review

I have just watched it, and I always thought that once I had a steady blog I would definitely write down my thoughts at moments like this. Not about the ordinary things you watch and then go to bed, but exactly about something like this.

I will start with the verdict: for me the film is 10 out of 10, so go and watch it if you are reading this.

And for now I will leave this comment for myself. I will read it in about ten years and watch the film with my son.

I decided to write about this cartoon precisely because it left in me the same feeling I had after the first Pixar film I ever saw, Monsters, Inc. I rewatched that film many times. Of course I will not wear Lightyear out like that: times are different, and there is less time than there used to be. And back then there was no internet where I could pick something new every evening. That is understandable.

But it is exactly cartoons like this that make you feel warm inside. Yes, there is a bit of destruction, but of robots, not people. Which is very pleasing.

The only one who gets killed is the villain. But even there it is not that simple.

Funny jokes, the cat especially. I genuinely laughed. Even though the cartoon is aimed at children. The animation is not exactly cutting edge and new, but it is precisely the kind we got used to in Toy Story.

The plot unfolds gradually and, most importantly, the film is in no hurry to end. It is not an hour and a half but almost two hours, which makes it very, very good.

I had time to sink into the atmosphere. Thank you to the translators and the voice cast.

And the main thing: the cartoon teaches us that even if your team is not the strongest, if you believe in them you can overcome a great deal. Friends and family matter a lot. Especially when friends become your family.
